For those that have met my lovely laptop~ you all know that it sounds like a jet plane that is revving its engine in preparation for take off.
And the sound, of course, comes from the lovely internal fan. When I first got the laptop, I really did not notice the sound of the fan. But as time goes on, for some reason, the sound just seems to get louder and louder.
I've had the computer for almost two years now, got it right before I came to Waseda. I've cleaned the fan twice~ first time a couple of months ago. And then again today.
The first time, I cleaned it with one of those air cans by spraying air directly into the fan holes. The air can worked miracles as it blasted the dust to smitherines.
When I fired up my computer again, I was like.. wow... I hear... NOTHING!
I was super happy

but then..5 minutes went by... then 10... then 20. I then turned the laptop upside down and realized that the fan had come to a complete stop rather than quietly cooling my pc.
That really made me wonder. Was my laptop really that cool that it did not need any sort of ventilation? or.... oh no! did I break my fan??
So then I broke out my handy Swiss Army Cyber Tool and began to operate on my pc.
After I opened the back panels of the laptop to expose the fan, I still couldn't figure out what exactly went wrong. Air can goes to work again. After a few squirts of air~ the fan coughed up a big o'l hair ball like a kitty cat.
oooh. So that's what stopped the fan from turning. Hmmm....
So after I put the back panel back on~ and fired up the pc...
My pc went from a jumbo airliner to a little twin engine passenger plane. Still can hear it.. but at least it's not working as hard now.
So~ after that incident, I made a mental note to check on my little fan every once in awhile. And recently~ it seems like the jumbo plane has returned so I decided to do some spring cleaning.
Before I opened the back panels. Look at all the dust bunnies!
See my love
~ my handy dandy Swiss Army CyberTool.
This time I actully took more screws out and took the fan out. Very interesting to see the maker of my fan. I really want to write them and tell them how sucky it is-- really need to work on getting more air flow and reducing the noise level. And how about doing something to make the cleaning process easier? grrr!
