  • A Dog’s Purpose (from a 6-year old).

too awesome to not share this blurb that someone sent me ~ probably fiction, but nonetheless…
    ~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish
Wolf hound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and
their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were
    hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family
we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the
euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be
good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as
though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker’s family
surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last
time, that I wondered if he understood what WA s going on. Within a few
    minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any
difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker ‘s
Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter
than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ‘I
    know why.’

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, ‘People are born so that they can learn how to live a good
Life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?’ The
Six-year-old continued, ‘Well, dogs already know how to do that, so
they don’t have to stay as long.’

    Live simply.

    Love generously.

    Care deeply.

    Speak kindly.

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy..

    Take naps.

    Stretch before rising.

    Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

    Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you’re not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

MOFA decries Chinese attack in Seattle

ECCENTRIC LEVEL: Following another incident involving Chinese intimidation of Taiwanese at an international event, the DPP demanded an apology from Beijing

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) yesterday lambasted Chinese players at the World Cyber Games in Seattle for roughing up Taiwanese contestants, saying that violence could only increase Taiwan’s aversion toward Beijing.

Phoebe Yeh (葉非比), acting deputy director-general of the ministry’s Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, said China’s suppression of Taiwan had reached an “eccentric” level, with the international community witnessing the profanity and violence of Chinese players at the event.

She cautioned Taiwanese to remain alert when encountering Chinese competitors at international events.

Players are advised to contact the ministry’s representative offices for assistance, she said.

Yeh said that Taiwanese player Liu You-chen (劉祐辰) won the bronze medal in the grand final of Project Gotham Racing 3 and displayed the Republic of China (ROC) flag during the award ceremony.

More than 10 Chinese gamers and Chinese media employees scrambled toward the stage to grab the flag, she said.

After the ceremony, Chinese players confronted the Taiwanese contestants, requesting that they surrender Liu and calling Taiwanese players “sons of bitches,” the Liberty Times (the Taipei Times‘ sister newspaper) reported.

The report said that Chinese players struck at the Taiwanese and tried to prevent them from taking their vehicle back to their hotel. Seattle police were called in to maintain order while the ministry’s representative office in Seattle sent personnel to provide assistance.

The organizer dispatched a vehicle to transport the Taiwanese players back to their hotel, the report said.

Meanwhile, a pro-independence group yesterday called on Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) presidential candidate Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) to speak up and defend the ROC in light of the incident.

The Southern Taiwan Society issued a statement calling on KMT politicians, including Ma, to show their loyalty to the ROC.

While the KMT claimed loyalty to the “national flag,” the statement said that it did not have the courage to stand up to China when it humiliates the nation, the society said.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislative caucus yesterday demanded an apology from Chinese President Hu Jintao (胡錦濤) for the behavior of Chinese participants.

“They [the Chinese participants] cursed our boys and called them `sons of bitches’ because they were holding our national flag. Is that the way for the Chinese government to treat Taiwanese people while they continue saying they want to unite with us?” DPP Legislator Wang Sing-nan (王幸男) said.

Wang Sing-nan and DPP Legislator Wang Tuoh (王拓) held a press conference at the caucus’ office yesterday morning.

Wang Tuoh said they had not intended to respond to the incident, but they decided to do something after the caucus office phone lines were flooded with angry callers.

They invited lawmakers from the KMT and People First Party to join their condemnation of the Chinese government.

“This is a great chance for them to fight with us on the same issue,” Wang Tuoh said.

  • The following is a direct quote from a book my boss handed over to me on my first day to read over the course of the month…

“By accessing large computer and electronic storage banks by means of cathode ray terminals (CRTs or television like equipment), dealers can . . .–all within seconds ”

omg… remind me…what century are we in again??

i guess the information in here may one day be sooo old that… people WILL be asking… what CRTs are…
